Since I can remember, I have always wanted a dog.
My mother and two brothers are allergic to dogs, so it was always out of the question when I was little, but I was desperate for one. I tried hamsters, rats, turtles, and birds, but none of them could fill the dog void. On more than one occasion I tied my skipping rope to a skateboard and walked it around the block, encouraging it to, “Come along, little doggy.” I also used to ask neighbours who had dogs if I could walk them, for free!
So when my husband and I got married, I told him his days alone with me were numbered. We were getting a dog. We decided to wait about a year to get settled in our new place, get used to married life, and enjoy some quiet time away from our families before taking the “dog plunge.”
And plunge we did.
This blog is all about our dog Cooper.
We had no idea what we were getting into (and still don't), and while I was looking for help online I couldn't really find what I was looking for: owners that were seriously struggling with having a dog. I thought I could start this blog to present another perspective on having a dog, other than, "I'm in heaven with my dog and I never feel otherwise!" I also take too many pictures and I'm sure my family is sick of hearing about Cooper, so I thought I would channel 50% of my dog talk on here!
So I will start at the beginning. Here he is, as we saw him first:
